NCURA Enrich Research Connection Symposium Updates
We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming Research Connection Symposium. We are very excited to bring you together with a number of outstanding US based researchers and research administrators. As a quick reminder, we will begin the Symposium at 1:00pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in the Lincoln Room, Concourse Level of the Washington Hilton. The event will run through the afternoon with a networking reception in the evening. The detailed agenda of the event can be found here.
We will begin with an ice breaker activity to allow everyone to introduce themselves in a dynamic way. We then transition to the pitch sessions in which each European researcher and research manager will have a chance to explain the context and intentions in seeking an international collaborator. This will be done in the format of an engaging story, telling how their research goals have brought them here. Please see below for a list of questions you might consider answering during your pitch session:
- What’s your research topic?
- Why is the international cooperation element crucial in your research?
- What kind of collaborators are you seeking in the US? (Expertise, topics, etc.)
Next we transition into research speed dating, during which time the different thematic tables will feature researchers of a similar field to discuss their potential projects, and this is when you will have an opportunity to discuss any collaboration opportunities with US researchers and/or research administrators. Finally, two experienced instructors will guide the symposium in the best practices of proposal writing. Dr. Marianne R. Woods, Ph.D., J.D of Johns Hopkins University and Megan Moore of Harvard University will lead.
We would also like to invite you all to meet on Tuesday evening to discuss the event. Please let us know if you will be able to attend this quick overview and happy hour. If you have any questions regarding the symposium, don’t hesitate to contact us. We will be out of the office working the NCURA Annual Meeting next week so feel free to reach us on our cell phones, Claire Chen 202-436-4325 and Dana Gresham 860-975-8478. Thank you and we’ll see you soon!
